Where have all the mid-level people gone?
Northborough, MA, July 16, 2007 - "Demand
for people in the 5-10 year range is quite high", says John
Rainone, Project Operations Manager for MorganSullivan, an executive
search firm serving the real estate and construction industries.
"The senior people are available and so are the entry level,
but there is a dearth of available mid-level experienced staff," says
Rainone.
Rainone points out that undergraduate and graduate students have
many more fields and careers to choose from given the increase in
technology based careers that has occurred over the past 10-15 years.
"There are many more choices for people today making the pool
of available talent much more competitive which may be a contributing
factor to this apparent lapse of mid-level talent. "
Rainone says that Real Estate and Construction firms have to be
more aggressive in attracting talent and that traditional forms of
advertising are not enough.
"Many companies are relying on search firms like ours to uncover
the top talent that is rarely found on job boards. Given the
limited talent available, many real estate and construction companies
understand that the best people to hire are often gainfully employed
and not actively looking for new employment and firms like ours are
hired to identify this talent."
Rainone recommends that firm leaders review salary and benefit surveys
periodically to make sure they're competitive with other firms. "It's
an employees market right now and real estate and construction firms
that are proactive with recruiting and aligning recruitment with
their strategic plan will have the edge in this market."
MorganSullivan is a strategic ally to its clients by way of its
